19th Birthday Event

To help raise funds for the Lauren Eley Music & Art Therapy Centre we organised a fund raising event on what would have been Lauren's 19th birthday, 26th February 2006.

We were supported by close friends and family and managed to raise £600 on the evening  This was the start of our various events that we were to hold. It was a chance for us all to remeber a special girl.

Wimbledon Thai Festival

Here we are raising money at the Buddhist Temple in Wimbledon at the Loy Krathong festival (Festival of Light). It was a cold crisp start to the day but a fantastic festival to be involved with. Bridget and I, along with Peter and Waree Warsop, set our stall out early and got to work seling grand prize tickets for the draw which was to be drawn at the Sing for your supper event.

During the day we were approached by a local resident who took a keen interest in what we were doing. He said he did not want to buy a ticket but did want to give us something and would return later. He was true to his word and returned with his family and handed us a cheque for £1,000. Thank you Bob, you made it a better day than it already had been.

Overall, on the day we raised a total of £1500.

Sing for your supper

The sing for your supper night in November 2006 was a great success. Karaoke led the way and everyone enjoyed either singing or dancing the night away. Thai food was laid on cooked by Waree and went down a storm.

This event saw an amazing £1,500 raised on the evening.

Sing while your drinking

A very good friend of the family,  Jill, went on holiday to Thailand and whilst there took a day out from her holiday to visit Laurens Music & Art Centre in Baan Nam Khem.  Jill and her daughter, Charlotte, saw for themselves what the centre had achieved and wanted to help us even further with our fund raisng.

Jill organised a great night of entertainment in her local pub, The Bold Dragoon in Weston Favell, ad local DJ's Danny & Richard gave their services to act as comperes for free on the night.

A further £1,300 was raised thanks to these wonderful people.

This type of fund raising gives everyone a great night out and a fantastic boost of funds for the charity.

Stars in their Eyes

May 2009 saw our next karaoke event take place.  This time we had a theme that was a cross between Stars in your Eyes and The X Factor.  We saw some great (and brave) acts who supported us by volunteering to sing for votes.  Each vote cost £1 and also doubled as a raffle ticket.  Nine acts performed ranging from youngsters to older (shall we say) groups of singers. The evening saw people voting for their favourite act or acts until the most voted act became the winner.

The two youngest singers of the night, Kirsten and Olivia, found themselves clear winners and helped raise a staggering total of £1500 on the night.

A Night at the Musicals

A Night at the Musicals was a night to remember, the audiance got to see some amazing local talent performing hits from the best known Musical hit shows such as Les Miserables, Cats, Legally Blonde and many more. The performances by each act went down a storm especially when Tomorrow from the musical Annie was sung by the 8 year old performer.

The night exceeded out expectations and we managed to raise £2,500 on the night. This money will go towards the up keep of our Music & Art Therapy Centre for the children in Thailand and to help rebuild the Orphanage in Haiti that was badly damaged by the earthquake earlier this year.

We would like to thank all those that turned up on the night and all those that could not, but donated a ticket that we were able to use for other local good causes. We were able to pass on these tickets to be used by the volunteers of the local branches of Help the Aged and Cynthia Spencer.

And the biggest thanks goes to Kelly Chambers who organised the whole show along with the performers who put so much time and effort in to create a such memorable night for us all.
